Cinematic 6K Images for Live Production

By utilizing a larger 6K sensor and Blackmagic generation 5 color science, the Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 6K Pro employs imaging technology like that of digital film cameras, producing cinematic visuals for live production. When paired with the built-in DaVinci Resolve primary color corrector, the camera delivers superior image quality when compared to basic broadcast cameras. Moreover, the color corrector can be managed from the switcher. With 13 stops of dynamic range, the Studio 6K Pro camera provides richer blacks and brighter whites, making it perfect for color correction. The camera's sensor features a resolution of 6144 x 3456, which enables it to produce truly cinematic visuals while supporting frame rates ranging from 23.98 to 60 fps.

Canon EF Lens Mount

The Studio Camera 6K Pro is equipped with an active Canon EF lens mount, allowing it to work with a diverse array of cost-effective cine-style and photographic lenses. Photographic lenses are capable of delivering exceptional quality due to their design for high-resolution photography. Additionally, the active lens mount facilitates remote adjustments of the lens. By using the optional focus and zoom demands, you can modify a compatible lens from the tripod handles, similar to a large studio camera. This eliminates the need to reach around to adjust the lens zoom and focus and helps prevent camera shake. As a result, you can operate the camera while keeping your hands on the tripod, allowing you to track shots without interruption. This feature provides a comparable experience to using an expensive B4 broadcast lens.

Compact and Lightweight Design

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro offers the advantages of a large studio camera in a single, compact design. The camera's lightweight body is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polycarbonate, which incorporates innovative technology into a miniaturized form factor. It is intended for live production, so you can conveniently track and frame shots with its sizeable 7" viewfinder. You can manage the camera using your switcher or software, or you can use the touchscreen menus to adjust camera settings and knobs for brightness, contrast, and focus peaking. Additionally, the camera includes a tripod mount with 15mm LWS rod ports and a mounting plate that facilitates quick setup.

Global Live Streaming

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro has a built-in live streaming feature that enables you to employ it as a remote camera from any location globally. It creates an H.264 live stream that is transmitted via the internet back to your studio. Furthermore, you can enhance the reliability of your Ethernet connection by linking your 4G or 5G smartphone to one of the USB-C ports. The ATEM Streaming Bridge is used to convert the live stream back to video in the studio, which also supports tally, talkback, and camera control.

Built-In ND Filters

You can take advantage of the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro's built-in ND filters to make swift and effortless adjustments to the amount of light entering the camera. These filters are created to correspond with the camera's color and include 2, 4, and 6-stop neutral density filters, as well as a clear filter, that filter out both optical and IR wavelengths, thus eradicating IR contamination. You can control the ND filters using the buttons on the camera or remotely.

Powerful Broadcast Connections

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro is designed to work seamlessly with sturdy SDI switcher workflows, thanks to its 12G-SDI, 10GbE Ethernet, talkback, and balanced XLR audio inputs. It features a variety of interfaces that are compatible with both broadcast and consumer components, including HDMI with tally, camera control, a record trigger, and headphone and mic connections, including dual XLR ports and two USB Type-C expansion ports. With 10G Ethernet, all video, tally, talkback, and camera power can be transmitted via a single connection, making your setup faster and more cost-effective.

Exceptional Low-Light Performance

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro comes with a gain range of -12 dB (100 ISO) up to +36 dB (25,600 ISO), which helps to minimize the grain and noise in the images while retaining the complete dynamic range of the sensor. It is optimized to operate at its best under studio lighting conditions with a primary native ISO of 400. In poorly lit environments, the secondary high-base ISO of 3200 works best. You can adjust the gain setting directly from the camera or remotely through the SDI or Ethernet remote camera control, via your switcher.

Frame Shots with Large 7" Viewfinder

The camera has a large 7" screen that makes it easy to frame shots. This high-resolution screen is a major advantage, especially when working outdoors in sunlight. The Pro model has an HDR display that provides extremely high brightness. The screen also displays status and record parameters, a histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame guides, and more. You can even apply 3D LUTs to monitor shots with your desired color and look. The touchscreen has menus, and you can load and customize presets for different jobs. The included sunshade can be folded to protect the screen during transport, and it's compatible with sunshades from the Blackmagic Studio Viewfinder.

Physical and Touchscreen Controls

Blackmagic Studio Cameras have both physical and touchscreen controls. On the right side of the camera, there are knobs for brightness, contrast, and focus peaking adjustment. The focus peaking knob is especially useful for zooming in and ensuring perfect focus by highlighting the details. The buttons on the left side can be assigned various functions such as zebra, false color, focus peaking, LUTs, etc., and you can customize their function through the menus. Additionally, the touchscreen displays important shooting information through a heads-up display, and you can access menus for camera settings, LUTs, and custom presets.

Communicate with the Director via Talkback

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro is equipped with SDI connections that are capable of talkback functionality, unlike consumer cameras. This feature allows the switcher operator to communicate with camera operators during live events, enabling the director to guide shot selection and preventing multiple cameras from capturing the same shot simultaneously. The talkback connector, which supports standard 5-pin XLR broadcast headsets, is built into the side of the camera. The talkback feature uses audio channels 15 and 16 in the SDI connection between the camera and the switcher, as well as in the program return from the switcher to the camera. As a result, any embedded SDI audio device can be used with the talkback feature.

Four Ways to Connect

Blackmagic Studio Cameras can be connected in lots of different ways. All models feature HDMI, so they are perfect for HDMI switchers such as the ATEM Mini. The HDMI supports video, tally, control, and record trigger for a broadcast-style workflow using a single HDMI cable. The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro has 12G-SDI, so you can connect it to SDI-based switchers, such as the ATEM Constellation. There's a 12G-SDI connection for camera video and one for program return. The program return also includes tally, talkback, and remote camera control. Or you can use 10G Ethernet to get camera video, program return, tally, talkback, camera control, and even power using a regular Cat 6a Ethernet cable.

Built-In Tally for On-Air Status

The Blackmagic Studio Cameras offer multiple connectivity options. They come with HDMI, which makes them ideal for use with HDMI switchers like the ATEM Mini. The HDMI port enables transmission of video, tally, control, and record trigger signals using just one HDMI cable. The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro model, on the other hand, is equipped with 12G-SDI, which enables connection to SDI-based switchers like the ATEM Constellation. This camera has two 12G-SDI connections: one for camera video and another for program return. The program return connection supports tally, talkback, and remote camera control. Alternatively, you can connect the camera using 10G Ethernet using a standard Cat 6a Ethernet cable, which enables transmission of camera video, program return, tally, talkback, camera control, and power.

Low-Cost SMPTE Fiber Style Workflow

The 10G Ethernet connection on the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro model allows for a simpler and more affordable way to connect and power cameras in a studio environment. This is done using a regular Cat 6a Ethernet cable, which is much less expensive than SMPTE fiber. The Blackmagic Studio Converter at the switcher end converts the Ethernet signals to SDI and handles all necessary video conversions, while also adding power to the Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for a separate power source for the camera. This makes setting up a professional studio environment much easier and more cost-effective.

USB Expansion Port for Accessories

The USB Type-C expansion port on the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro can also be used to connect external SSDs or other high-speed storage devices, allowing you to record and store a large amount of footage without having to switch out storage media frequently. Additionally, the camera can be connected to a computer via USB for live streaming or for use as a high-quality webcam in video conferencing applications. The USB Type-C port also supports software updates, so you can easily keep your camera up-to-date with the latest firmware.

Blackmagic Raw Quality

Blackmagic Raw is a high-quality format that captures and preserves the sensor data from your camera, allowing for maximum flexibility in post-production. Unlike highly compressed formats like H.264, Blackmagic Raw provides a much greater range of colors and detail, which can be adjusted and manipulated without the risk of losing quality. The metadata that is saved with the Blackmagic Raw file allows for the ISO, white balance, and exposure settings to be adjusted in post-production, making it incredibly versatile for a range of projects. Additionally, the small file sizes and fast editing responsiveness make Blackmagic Raw a popular choice for many professional filmmakers and post-production teams.

Includes Built-In Microphones

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro also includes a 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting standard headphones. This is a great feature for monitoring the audio while recording or during live events. Additionally, the camera has built-in speakers, so you can hear the program return audio without needing additional speakers. With professional XLR audio inputs, the camera supports balanced analog audio input with selectable 48V phantom power. You can also embed audio from HDMI and SDI inputs, and there's a 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting an external microphone or line-level source. The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro also supports recording audio in 24-bit, 48 kHz uncompressed format, providing high-quality audio to match the stunning visuals.

Monitor Program Video

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro lets you view program video from the switcher at the press of a button. Simply press the camera's PGM button, and the viewfinder will switch from the camera display to the program return feed from the switcher and monitor the switcher audio. Program return is a fantastic feature as sometimes on large live shows, camera operators can be left waiting a long time for their camera to be used, so program return lets them watch the show while they wait. This means that even if the camera operator is a large distance away from the switcher, they can still keep up with what's happening and remain alert.

Supports 3D LUTs for Film Looks

When Blackmagic Raw files use logarithmic film gamma to preserve the camera dynamic range, 3D LUTs can be used to convert the images on the viewfinder display from looking flat and washed out. The 3D LUTs solve this problem because they convert the image just before it's displayed on the LCD. This allows the film gamma images being recorded to be converted to nicer-looking images on the LCD. The 3D LUTs are also saved into the Blackmagic Raw files, so they can be used in later postproduction, but they are never burned into the Blackmagic Raw image data, so you always have the option to disable them. This means the 3D LUT is transported in the Blackmagic Raw file, but only used when you enable it.

Localized in 13 Popular Languages

The Blackmagic Studio Cameras are designed to be used globally, and users can choose their preferred language from the menu settings. There are 13 popular languages available, including English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Ukrainian. Switching between languages is a straightforward process and can be done anytime. When the language is changed, all on-screen overlays, setup menus, and the heads-up display are displayed in the selected language.

Powers from DC or 10G Ethernet

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro has several power options, including a 12 VDC locking power connector that prevents the cable from being accidentally pulled out. The camera includes a power supply with five different AC socket adapters for different countries. However, if you're using a single Ethernet cable to connect to the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro model, then the whole camera and its accessories can be powered from the Ethernet connection. The Blackmagic Studio Converter has a large power supply that adds PoE power to the Ethernet cable, so you don't need any power connection to the camera. That's a great solution when there's no power available where the cameras are placed.

Optional Accessories

You can use the separately available Focus and Zoom demands to remotely control your compatible lens and the Blackmagic Studio Converter for a single Ethernet connection to the camera.
